PCT/US2024/016807This application claims the benefit of pirority of US Provisional Application 63/609,463 filed 13/12/2023 and US Provisional application 63/448,901, filed on 28/02/2023.The disclosure relates generally to animicrobila articles with a surface containing metal nanostructures, and more particularly to animicrobial articles comprising glass with a surface containing discontinuosu islands comprising copper, silver, gold or any combination thereof.Touch-activated surfaces are ubiquitous in contemporary society, and such surfaces have the potential to harbor infectious pathogens, including bacteria and viruses. As a result, ther is a need for surfaces having antimicrobial properties. The disclosure relates, in various aspects to an antimicrobial article, comprising:a substrate comprising a first major surface and a second major surfacean optional adhesion layer disposed on the first major surgace of the substratediscontinuous islands comprising copper, silver, gold or any combination thereof disposed on the first major surface of the substrate, the optional adhesion layer if present or botha dielectric layer disposed between and at least partially covering the discontinous islandswherein the discontinuous islands and the dielectric layer together form and aouter antimicrobial surface
