Short biography
Jordi Sort leads the ‘Group of Smart Nanoengineered Materials, Nanomechanics and Nanomagnetism’ (with ca. 20 researchers) as an ICREA Research Professor at UAB. He also leads the 'Nanomaterials for Advanced Memory and Computing' Group at ICN2. After finishing his PhD in 2002 in the field of “magnetic interfacial effects” (Extraordinary Award), Prof. Sort performed postdoctoral stays at SPINTEC and Argonne National Laboratory. His research focuses on a wide range of materials (thin films, lithographed structures, porous alloys and composites) with emphasis on their magnetic, magnetoelectric and mechanical performance. He received awards from the Catalan and Spanish Physical Societies as well as the Federation of European Materials Societies. Prof. Sort has supervised 21 PhD Theses, published 390 articles (>14200 citations in WoS, h = 60), issued 7 patents and managed 40 projects (Coordinator of 2 European Training Networks; PI of an ERC-CoG, an ERC-AdG and 2 ERC-PoC).
