Short biography
ICREA Research Professor and Group Leader of the Magnetic Nanostructures group at the Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia. Graduated in Physics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1986, earned his PhD in Condensed Matter Physics from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden) in 1993. He was post-doc fellow at the University of California San Diego from 1993 to 1997. From 1997-2001 research associate at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and since 2001 ICREA Research Professor at the same university. In 2007 he moved to the ICN2 - Institut Català de Nanociencia I Nanotecnologia. His research interest is in the magnetic properties of diverse materials and the exchange coupling between dissimilar magnetic materials. In recent he has expanded hir reesrach interest into magnetoplasmonic materials for biomedical applications, novel structures for enviromental remediation and advanced characterization of nanomaterials.
Research interests
We study the magnetic properties of different types of exchange coupled nanostructures, e.g., lithographically patterned structures and core-shell type nanoparticles. The idea is to use magnetic interactions that arise between different magnetic materials to improve the overall magnetic properties of the materials. We correlate the different structural, morphological or magnetic parameters with the enhanced magnetic properties. Onther core topic of the group os magnetoplasmonic nanostructures for biomedical applications (e.g., hyperthermia). In recent years,w e have started to work on new topics like novel structures for enviromental remediation or advanced characterization of nanomaterials (using TEM, synchrotron techniques or neutrons).
