10 ICREAs among the 1% most cited researchers of 2018

This year, 10 ICREA Research Professors have been among the top 1% most cited researchers by Clarivate Analytics. An impressive performance by any stardards. Josep Dalmau (IDIBAPS), Manel Esteller (IDIBELL), Toni Gabaldón (CRG),Frank Koppens (ICFO), Maciej Lewenstein (ICFO),  Josep Llovet (IDIBAPS), Maurizio Mencuccini (CREAF), Sergei Odintsov (CSIC-ICE), Mira Petrovic (ICRA), and Romain Quidant (ICFO -again!).

Out of the 120.000 researchers working in Spain, only 115 have made into the list. ICREA researchers have fared extremely well thanks to their outstanding recognition and influence they have gained in their respective fields.

Congratulations to all of them, and also to their host institutions for this well deserved recognition.

The full list and downloadable report can be found here.

Official statement about the 1st of October 2017

ICREA fully condemns recent violent events, unjustified and unjustifiable, exercised in Catalonia yesterday. We express our rejection, our indignation and our outmost disapproval. We believe that the use of force against citizens is unacceptable in any democracy.

Beyond the diverse personal political positions within the ICREA community, we have to reiterate that the only possible way out in any conflict, is dialogue and we will never cease to claim dialogue as the only legitimate means in a mature democracy.

Peptomyc raises 4.2M € to advance its cancer therapy

Laura Soucek (ICREA @ VHIO) and Marie-Eve Beaulieu are the Peptomyc entrepreneurs that last year started the company and raised 1M to reach proof of concept stage. After sucessfully completing the first milestones, they have now secured asecond round. The investment was led by Barcelona based investors Alta Life Sciences and raised more than 4 million euros to develop their promising oncology treatment. In a nutshell, their technology is based on blocking the gene Myc, which is essential for the survival of cancer cells (and only those!) We wish them all the best and hope that this can become a treatment in the future.

See attached the press release, and click here to go to VHIO's website and find out more about the science behind this breakthrough.

    EURAXESS HRS4R Strategy submitted!

After two and a half years of work, we have finally completed the Implementation Phase of the EURAXESS Human Resorces for Research Strategy (HRS4R') and have submitted the documents to the Euraxess authorities. The Action Plan, which constitutes the backbone of the strategy is already available here. It is also posted on the ICREA Transparency page where it will be permanently available.

The next step in the process is the assessment by the European Commission, which, if successful, will grant the HRS4R to ICREA. Two years later, we will prepare an interim report for assessment, and we and three years after that, there will be an on site visit and reaccreditation of ICREA.

The work has been possible thanks to all ICREA Research Professors who participated in the questionnaire and also those who have been contributiing with ideas and suggestions, and very especially to the members of the work group, who have been overseeing the task on a regular basis throughout the entire duration of the process:

    • Prof. Anna Alberni – Universitat de Barcelona (UB)
    • Prof. Núria Aliaga –Institut de Ciència dels Materials de Barcelona (CSIC- ICMAB)
    • Prof. Joan Bagaria – Universitat de Barcelona (UB)
    • Prof. Maria Garcia-Parajo – Institut de Ciències Fotòniques (ICFO)
    • Prof. Ramon Miquel – Director,  Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE)
    • Prof. José Luis Riechmann –  Director, Centre de Recerca Agrigenòmica (CRAG ) CSIC-IRTA-UAB-UB
    • Prof. Jeroen van den Bergh - Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (ICTA/UAB).
    • Mr. Emilià Pola (Chair) -  Executive Director, ICREA

We are looking forward to proudly displaying the HR award logo on our site!
